Charleston/Savannah Planned Trip Help

We want to either fly in to Charleston or Savannah and then rent a car and drive to the other city. We would then return to Houston from the city that we drove to. Is this feasible? Which city first? Also, we thought we%26#39;d stop by Tybee Island and take a look around on the drive. We also want to go to Paula Deen%26#39;s restaurant and was thinking either the Paula Deen tour or the Foodie tour (or both?). Any thoughts from all you great forum readers out there? Ya%26#39;ll have been a great help to me numerous times!! Thanks TripAdvisor for wonderful forums and other great resources for us travelers.

Sometimes you can get direct flights and good prices between Houston and Charleston. I do not know about the flights from Savannah. I wish we had access to Southwest Airlines.

I prefer Charleston to Savannah (big rivalry - like Dallas %26amp; Houston) but people in Savannah might disagree. They do have Paula but we have some great food up here, too.

You might enjoy some of the classes at Charleston Cooks on East Bay Street. 843-722-1212 www.mavericksouthernkitchens.com

A couple of thoughts...

Tybee isn%26#39;t on the way from Savannah to Charleston. It%26#39;s not as convenient as the Charleston-area beaches, which have a good reputation for beauty and accessibility. I%26#39;d suggest visiting Savannah for the sites and stopping in perhaps Beaufort and then go on to Charleston and the beaches (or do the trip in reverse; whichever works better for your airfare).

Paula Deen certainly has made a name for herself and you should definitely read the reviews for her restaurant and tour. In Savannah, I would recommend you go to Mrs. Wilkes Boarding house for lunch - it%26#39;s an institution. In Charleston - I%26#39;d recommend any number of restaurants, but if it%26#39;s uniqueness you%26#39;re looking for, spend an evening at Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant and do visit a plantation or two.

I am doing the same trip in a few weeks with my mom, Savannah then Charleston. I have been to Savannha, but not Charleston. Really looking forward to Charleston. So I need to start researching ladies stuff to do in Charleston. We are staying at King George IV Inn.

Try having High Tea at Charleston Place Hotel, shopping on King Street, a carriage ride, touring a house museum downtown, touring Middleton Place (good place for lunch and great house tour!), sip on drinks at the rooftop bar at the Market Pavillion Inn...so much to do!

Dock Street Theater is under repair but Footlight Players may have something while you are in town. Check to see if the Preservation Society or Symphony Society is offering house tours.

There is so much to do and see!

Wear COMFORTABLE flats that can walk and walk. This is a walking town. Tuck in a small flashlight because the sidewalks and cobblestone streets can be tricky!

Definitely take in a class at Charleston Cooks on East Bay St..

Thanks so much. Sounds like all I need ;) This was the least amount of time I have needed to spend planning a trip. We arrive after the home tours. Next time hopefully.
