Holiday Inn Historic District

Earlier this month I travelled to Charleston to visit my daughter who attends the College of Charleston. This was my third trip to the city, the first one was many years ago, the second in August of this year. I stayed in three differnt hotels each visit, the last one at the Holiday Inn in the Historic District, which I chose for its proximity to my daughter%26#39;s campus. It ended up being a great choice. The hotel is very convenient to virtually everything and nicely laid out with all the amenities I expected. My room was clean and neat and handsomely decorated. Except for breakfast, I did not eat there, but that is to be expected when you begin to understand the amount and quality of very good to great restaurants that are in a city of Charleston%26#39;s size. Guiding me through all my choices for dining and sightseeing was the superb concierge at the Holiday Inn, Kevin McQuade. This transplanted Connecticut native konws Charleston intimately and is enthusastic about sharing that knowledge with his guests. I will return to the Holiday Inn for all of the reasons I have mentioned, but especially because of Kevin McQuade.

Holiday Inn Historic District

The Mills House is highly recommended by folks on this board for a reason. It is elegant, historic, in a great location, and is a great value (many visitors have reported that they%26#39;ve gotten $105-$135 rates for off-nights and you cannot beat that with a stick!)

Good to know a concierge%26#39;s name - I hope he reads this - good news like that is always welcome.

For anyone looking for a hotel, just remember it is listed under ';Holiday Inn Historic District'; but in no way, shape or form is it like any other H.I. you know.

Thanks cofcdad for your overview! Glad you had a good time. Also glad you weren%26#39;t here from Thurs to yesterday as we made up for the lack of rain for the past several years (it seemed like it!) in just 4 days. Not to worry now = weather is perfect!

Holiday Inn Historic District

Very interesting but I hope he also posted it under the hotel section? If I%26#39;m looking for hotels I go to the hotel section not the forum!!

Just for clarification - ';The Holiday Inn Historic District';, on Calhoun Street, and ';The Mills House'; (also owned by Holiday Inn), on Meeting Street, are two different hotels. Both are highly regarded on TA.

Yes Kiawahvilla is right - both are in the HD but one has that in its name and the Mills House uses the Mills House in its name. Both have outstanding reputations and people are happy staying at either place. My personal preference - (in case this wasn%26#39;t glaringly obvious!) is the Mills House.

Thanks KV!

Is the Holiday Inn historic in a good location to tour Charleston? I had read a post that it was best to stay around Market St. and on the map the Holiday Inn seemed to be outside of this area. We are looking at possibly staying here but remain undecided due to its location - any thoughts?

Thanks.

The OP liked the location because it is near The College of Charleston. If you are coming for a short visit, and want to walk out your door into the heart of the historic district, stay further south on the peninsula.

It is very close - only a few blocks to Market Street. Advantage - if you%26#39;re staying on the weekend, you%26#39;ll have a front row seat to one of the country%26#39;s best Farmers Markets. (way more than veggies!)

Can you recommend somewhere budget friendly in the historic district? Easy walking access..

I could be wrong, but you won%26#39;t be able to do much better than $100 in the Historic District, even in the low season on a low-priced day. Is that what you mean by ';budget';?
