driving to Myrtle Beach

Driving to Myrtle Beach on Sunday morning South on I95 from Northern Virginia. Where is the best place to head east off of I95...at South of the Border or earlier? PTZ

driving to Myrtle Beach

On a recent road trip we followed another person%26#39;s suggested route and it worked fine. Since we seldom go to the beach from that direction, I can%26#39;t actually say how it compares to other routes. Have heard from several others who do come in from I95 every trip and they were happy with it.

We hopped off of I 95 at exit 119a. Should be I 795 towards Goldsboro.

At Goldsboro I 795 becomes Rt 117. A few stoplights but little trafic to speak of.

Rt 117 to I 40. I 40 towards Wilmington. You%26#39;ll start seeing ';To Myrtle Beach'; signs there.

I 140 around Wilmington to Rt 17. Rt 17 to Little River.

For NMB stay on Rt 17. For MB or south end of MB. Run a mile or two out Rt 9 to Rt 31. Rt 31 south to MB. Couple access roads off of Rt 31 depending on where you are staying.

We did Gettysburg to Garden City on a Sunday morning. 8 1/2 hours doing maybe 5 over limit, one gas stop and two bio-breaks.

This is my standard post on this subject. If you take 95 down,

Take NC exit 2 off I-95.

Hwy 130 out of Rowland, NC for 6 miles then right on Hwy 904 in the small community of Fairmont, NC.

Hwy 904 to Fairbluff, NC, Left through town and then right on 904 again into Tabor City, NC.

Hwy 701 out of Tabor City, NC into SC and left on Hwy 9.

Hwy 9 all the way in to Hwy 17 for NMB or the 31 bypass to MB or all the way to 544 for Garden City and Surfside Beach.

This route is mostly 2 lane country highway, but the fastest I%26#39;ve found. I will admit I do go over the 55 mph speed limit out on these roads. I probably average 65 MPH the whole way. There is also almost NO TRAFFIC this way. The small towns you encounter on this route are just that, SMALL. You are through them in no more than a few minutes.
