jellyfish

How have the jellyfish been so far?

jellyfish

Not Bad at all.

We don%26#39;t get near as many as they do in Florida.

Thanks, Stan. We live in fear of jellies, sharks, too!

Just came back from a week in HH. Spent most of the week in the ocean and saw only one jellyfish the entire week.

O.K., just returned on 7/30/06. The ocean was jelly free until Friday, 7/29/06. When I arrived around noon, the lifeguard said she had 15 stings. We spent our last day @ the pool. Oh, but was that ocean beautiful that day!

I bel;ieve there has been a warning issued in North Carolina about jellyfish, any such warning lurking in HHI?

yes, we had one jelly sting, and yesterday there was even a shark sighting (3-4 ft) - it was caught in the tide pool trying to get back into the ocean, so our beach was cleared for 30 min by the lifeguard to be safe. It didn%26#39;t phase us much though, we were back playing in the ocean again today!

Kate,.

OMG, sharks really freak me out! In the tidal pool? Yikes! What beach was this on?

The most Jellies I ever saw in one place was in the Chesapeake Bay. There were regular street signs along the waters edge showing a person jumping into the bay and jellies stinging him all over. I walked out onto the pier and couldn%26#39;t believe my eyes. There were so many of them. My guess is literally a billion in that small area of the bay, My stomach turns just remembering them. There was a small swimmable beach that had jellyfish nets up protecting the bathers. O.K., now who is going to swim in that?

Another way to freak yourself out is to go shark fishing off HHI. I mean immediately off the island - if you decided to jump ship and swim to shore, you%26#39;d be there in 5 minutes . Be prepared to become exhausted by the number %26amp; types of shark you pull in and by the fight they give you. Those are the small ones!! My daughter reeled in a big bonnethead.

Please tell me which beach this was and what kind of shark.

I think that surf fishing should be illegal because aren%26#39;t they attracting shark towards the swimmers? It%26#39;s totally legal.

Shark fishing from the beach is totally ILLEGAL for the reasons stated.

hhiguy: These things are somewhat disconcerning, please ease my mind with your view of the dangers of jellyfish and sharks and the likliehood of both in the end of August 2006.
