oysters??

My boyfriend and I will be in Charleston for a couple days and are oyster lovers! Any good places we can gorge on these treats without breaking the bank? Also, any great southern restaurant suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You%26#39;re in luck! Since it%26#39;s now September, they are back in season. We love the oysters in EVERY form (fried, steamed, stew, shooters) at Shem Creek Bar %26amp; Grille in Shem Creek (about 10 mins from downtown Ctown). Great location on the water. Good for brunch and sunset dinners. Enjoy!

You can get them at pretty much any seafood restaurant, although a high end restuarant won%26#39;t do them by the bucket.

Pearlz Oyster Bar on East Bay is a fun place with great drinks and oysters.

You didn%26#39;t say when you were coming - January is the time of the largest oyster festival in the country -the Lowcountry Oyster Festival held at Boone Hall Plantation. I must say it was awesome - I was not expecting really excellent oysters (how could they be, I thought, if they have to serve 65000 pounds of them?) Well they were great.

If you get a chance to go to Shem Creek but want an indoor restaurant, Locklear%26#39;s has a great menu with a few oyster selections.

I am going at the end of this month (sept.), but I really wish we could attend the oyster festival!

Typically in Charleston, the old %26#39;rule of thumb%26#39; is that you shouldn%26#39;t eat oysters until after the first frost. Although I am a oyster lover myself, I have to say that the best oysters can be found at a little shack called Bowen%26#39;s Island near Folly Beach. It really isn%26#39;t a long drive and it is well worth it. If you prefer more of a ';nice'; dining atmosphere, then the places listed above will work for you. Bowen%26#39;s is a rustic place that caters to good food - all you can eat oysters- beer and lots of local fun!
