I am from SC and live in Boston now. I am bring my boyfriend of several years to Charleston this weekend, and he has never visited the South. We love to eat, and I want to take him to some great southern food and seafood restaurants. We already have a reservation at circa 1886 for one night and are hoping to spend a little less for the other two.
I wanted to take him to Poogan%26#39;s Porch, but my dad said he thought that it had gone downhill lately, and I haven%26#39;t been there in about 10 years. Has anyone been there lately? Is this true? We%26#39;re only in town a few days; should we try Hank%26#39;s instead?
Thanks for your help.
Restaurant advice
Poogans is a well known restaurant in the city and I have to agree with your dad, the past couple times my husband and I have been there we were not impressed. We enjoy 82 Queen for southern food or something smaller and not as fancy would be Cru Cafe. It is in a historic home about a block from the city market. Or like you mentioned Hanks is the best seafood restaurant. It is very overwhelming trying to decide where to eat. We have too many great places!!

There have been some very nice things said about Poogan%26#39;s recently. You were responding on a thread that started and ended almost three years ago. Restaurants change, going through good times and bad. Glad to hear you had a good meal at this old and famous Charleston restaurant!
