We just got back from a lovely trip to HHI. Just thought I%26#39;d share that Hanna had virtually no effect on the island other than lots of rain for one afternoon and evening. Surf and clouds coming in were kind of neat to walk on Friday and there were a few others walking too. We had great weather all week except for Friday afternoon and had a delightful time. Can%26#39;t wait to go back.
Never saw a single jelly fish. However, beach was always quite windy and oddly enough somewhat cool in the afternoon and evenings. Once you got back about 600 feet just to the road, it was amazingly humid and hot again and relatively still most days. Go figure how 600 feet made such a difference! Our cheap Walmart chairs were blown over immediately and kind of useless from night 2 on. We didn%26#39;t want to pay big bucks for the sturdy rentals due to expense and fact they%26#39;re taken down at about 4pm each day and we like to sit from 4pm to about 6:30 pm. We used the private pool at luxury house we rented for just sunning and playing during the days.
Golf at Fazio course right outside our house backyard was great and inexpensive after 1pm. We kayaked with Outside Hilton on Thursday evening right before Hanna, at low tide and it was pretty awesome. Lots of birds and an interesting look at wildlife from a kayak. Only saw one baby dolphin - never did see mama dolphin. I liked our guide - very knowledgable, but our group was a bit too large (18) and our kayak foot rests were broken and it was difficult for a beginner. Yet, still we really enjoyed it and I%26#39;m glad we did it.
Lunch at Boathouse II on Friday as Hanna hit was magnificent. We almost had the place to ourselves and watching all the rain on the water was very nice. Food was interesting and we all liked our dishes. Ate at Wild Wing Cafe too - long wait and nothing special but enjoyable nonetheless.
Bikes from Palmetto Dunes Outfitters never broke down once and were at our rental house right on time when we arrived Saturday afternoon.
Traffic was just a little bad on Labor Day weekend. After that, the beaches were still a bit crowded but not bad at all. People might have cleared out in fear of Hanna, but from what I could tell, no one really seemed to care that much.
We look forward to going back and I think it was Stan -HH Guy who said that by your 5th or 6th visit, you%26#39;re ready to talk to realtors. We%26#39;d love to retire in about 10 years on Hilton Head, but I doubt we can even remotely afford it. We%26#39;ll look into Bluffton probably.
