4 girlfriends are going to Charleston to visit a friend who recently moved there. Any suggestions on where to dine, and more also where to go for drinks, we are not interested in the college 20%26#39;s bar scene, but we do like to dance and have lots of fun.....we don%26#39;t really have a budget, so that%26#39;s not our major concern We just want to be in a livley, age-approiate atmosphere, and not at a frat party!!!!! Thanks so much for any help....

Aren%26#39;t you lucky - someone just started a nice summary of nightclubs/hangouts on this forum. Click on ';Things to Do'; and select ';Nightlife...';
Now I like Red%26#39;s Ice House myself, and you probably will too, but I%26#39;ve seen one description of it as being a little ';meat market';-y. (I think that%26#39;s an exception and not the rule). Regardless, it%26#39;s fun and lively (it%26#39;s an outdoor place overlooking the creek) and is ';perfect'; for a group like yours. It%26#39;s in Shem Creek, which is in Mt. Pleasant, just minutes from the bridge.
More upscale is the Rooftop bar at the Vendue Inn off East Bay St.
I think East Bay Street would generally be a good place for you.
For daytime fun you should consider taking a cooking class at Charleston Cooks, or taking a walking tour, or a boat ride or eco tour, or a trip to a plantation.
Have fun! It%26#39;ll be a blast no matter what! Oh, and if you haven%26#39;t traveled together before, here%26#39;s a travel tip: Make a rule that everyone use the phrase ';brutally honest';. If everyone can say what%26#39;s on their mind by using a catch-phrase, it takes some of the tension off the person raising the concern and at the end of the trip you%26#39;ll still be good friends. (ie: I%26#39;ve got to be brutally honest...I don%26#39;t want to read each and every word on each and every plaque at Ellis Island). :) This has worked for us!

I also love Chai%26#39;s and Blind Tiger Pub. Low-key with a nice vibe and both downtown. Shem Creek is a bit of a drive if you%26#39;re planning on drinking and are staying downtown! High Cotton, Cypress, and Fig have nice bars.

Have you taken your trip yet? I am taking a similiar trip in October for a wedding/R%26amp;R with a group of the same age. I am wondering what establishments you visited in the Historic area and enjoyed. Most of the crew are guys and we will be looking for some good spots to enjoy refreshments and entertainment geared towards our age. Also, did you happen to see any %26#39;dueling piano%26#39; bars downtown?
We did go...and had a blast...
we went to Red%26#39;s on friday night, we had a cab service, it is very laid back and casual, and in on the water, and is very pretty, it seemed like a happy hour after work place, so if you went there, it%26#39;s fine to go early...
saturday, we went shopping in Charleston, and then went for high tea, I will check the name of the hotel, but it was right downtown. High tea was so lovely and fun! we shopped some more...
sat. night, we had dinner at SNOB, make reservation, very pretty and delicious! I reccomend it! Sat. night we went to Vendue Inn roof bar, but it closed at 11pm, then we went to another roof top bar, of another hotel, and it was very nice...lots of bacholerette parties....we went to another bar Light, I think....very college, I would not reccomed it....never found a piano bar, but that sounds fun!
we didn%26#39;t do the beach or a plantaion tour, but we said next time we would....have fun!
