My family is surprising my mom with a week long trip to Charleston for her 60th birthday this October. I would like to know what places are a must see and of course all the wonderful restaurants we need to eat at. Any suggestions for us?
60th Birthday Trip to Charleston
What sorts of activities interest you? Are you staying in the historic district? and, will you have a car?
Since you have chosen Charleston, I am guessing that you are interested in history, architecture, and gardens. During October you can visit some of the beautiful private homes on The Preservation Society%26#39;s evening tours - www.preservationsociety.org
Look at the restaurant reviews in the link to the left on this page. There are MANY wonderful restaurants. It would be helpful to know what kind of food and ambience you and your mother enjoy.

You should consider purchasing the Preservation Society%26#39;s tour tickets in advance - it%26#39;ll take some of the stress off of your mom. Note that there is a lot of walking and some waiting in line (some of the houses get ';backed up'; and only a certain number of people are let in at one time to any house or garden. There are two types of tours - one is ';all houses';, one ';all gardens';. The house tours are typically in the daytime; the garden tours are ';candlelight'; so if you%26#39;re surprising her (and she likes gardens) you can give her a box of clues - how cute would this be - that include a candle, a flashlight, a box of grits, a photo of an azalea, magnolia or oleander, etc.)
Have fun!
