Several college buddies are flying into Charleston this Thursday (Oct. 9th) for a wedding. Once we get off of the plane on Thursday we want to head directly to a beach for cocktails and relaxing. We are in our late 30%26#39;s and would like a lively beach with entertainment and plenty of people watching. We are staying in the Historic District but planning on making daily trips to the beach until the Sat. evening wedding. I would also like to be close to a lively resort where we can purchase refreshments. Thanks

Well, first of all you can%26#39;t take alcohol on the beaches out here without a big risk of being fined or worse. This renewed vigilance of the law was due to a particularly unruly group - and it only takes one - on Sullivan%26#39;s Island earlier this year. Having said that - there are plenty of nightclubs on the beach and in close proximity - just keep it on the premises.
Isle of Palms has the Windjammer, Coconut Joe%26#39;s, and a few others, and Sullivan%26#39;s Island has Dunleavy%26#39;s Pub, Poe%26#39;s Tavern and a few others. Going south of the city you%26#39;ve got Folly Beach, which is probably much more suited for your group, but you might want to post on the Folly forum if you want specific names of places.
