we left NJ last sat @ 6am to MB and got there
at 9pm with traffic. we drove back to NJ tues am and
got home @ 10pm this is why:
after much anticipation and a long trip with 3 kids
we are so disappointed and tired.
we checked into SeaMist Sat nite and were so tired we didn%26#39;t pay much attention to the room until the sun came up. 1st thing was i smelled mold all over my hair and body (was coming from the bed sheets)
the TV had five channels working and the bathroom
had an odor coming from it and the room door stuck each time you opened it.
I called front desk and they switched our room.
The new room bedding did not smell moldy and tv worked but the bolted lock was broken off and the rug was soaked and i couldn%26#39;t figure out why.
this bathroom also seemed to have a funky smell
coming out of it. also, these bathrooms have no locks which is odd anyhow, I did not pay for or expect Marriot accomadations and wanted to make the best of it especially after lugging all our stuff
again to the new room.
we had a nice sunny day at the hotel water park across street and enjoyed the beach and ocean,
but I had an uneasy feeling in this hotel since we arrived. monday it poured all day and by evening it stopped and hubby took the 3 boys mini golfing while
I hung out on balcony and watched some tv.
I heard by door being turned but noone entered and
I looked in hall and it wasn%26#39;t my family so I shrugged it off. next morn was overcast but hubby took 2 kids to beach and myself and 3rd son were
getting ready to meet them and walked in the hall and my neighbor came over and told me her room had
been robbed of everything the night before. this poor woman and her husband and little boy. she was one room away in her mother%26#39;s room while this robbery took place - they took labtop, purse, everything!!! guess this is a reason why our lock was broken - this was my breaking point i guess -
i went back into my room and packed everything once again and in meantime hubby came up worried and
i told him we are outa here. seamist gave us a refund for the next 3 nites and we took the money and drove back to NJ. i know there are many other hotels in MB we could have gone to and robberies can happen anywhere but i just wanted to go home. so another long trip back home with kids crying and fighting and i felt awful i ruined their vacation.
we are going to wildwood crest tonight until tuesday to recooperate from MB trip and hopefully relax..
I LOVE MB don%26#39;t get me wrong and last October at Dunes Village we had a ball, this just was not meant to be.
myrtle beach nightmare
why didnt u just take the refund money and goto a different hotel?
myrtle beach nightmare
of course we could have got another hotel but i was
so annoyed and it rained the whole day before and was overcast that day and the news kept saying it would continue raining so we decided to head back north. i hope the week turned out sunny for everyone - our town in NJ is a suburb and just had
4 home robberies in the last few weeks before we left
and then after the hotel room robbery it freaked me out - i guess i overeacted but i lost my bearings,
wasn%26#39;t planning on being stressed out on vacation.
Sorry you had a bad time. But.. I think I would have gone to a different hotel myself.
Why didn%26#39;t you stay at Dunes again this time if it was so nice.
After looking at the SeaMist pictures...I don%26#39;t think that would have been a choice for me.
There have been many reviews about SeaMist, I would never recommend it to anyone. I don%26#39;t like the location, I don%26#39;t like the oldness of the buildings and the fact that they say they are going to build new buildings so they aren%26#39;t going to keep up the old ones. But the area is really the worst part of the deal. Sorry to hear that.
When we stayed at Pelican%26#39;s Watch last week, we were warned that there had been break-ins in the complex 3 Tuesday mornings in a row. In one of the instances, the thief even got car keys out of the room %26amp; stole their car! That is a good complex in a safe area, so I guess it happens everywhere.
It sounds like your room was just horrid %26amp; that probably added to your just wanting to go home.
Fergy I feel so bad for your family by your posts I know you were soooooo looking forward to the trip. I wish I could pack you all up and take you with us on the 12th of Sept. I love Wildwood and I hope you have fun. I%26#39;m sure the kids will forget about MB after a few rides and boardwalk games. OK so they won%26#39;t forget altogether but when you go back to MB next yr they can have fun comparing the';dump'; to the great place you will have next time.
Thanks for posting despite your bad feelings. If anything can be learned from your misfortune, it is that T/A is here to help everyone avoid just such a situation.
Had you read any Sea Mist reviews? I%26#39;m guessing you either didn%26#39;t or shrugged them off. Some decent places get an undeserved ';bad rap'; here but when most of the reviews are bad there usually is a valid reason.
I also agree crime happens everywhere but the general location of Sea Mist is yet another concern.
Wow, sorry to hear that. I can certainly understand you just packing up and heading back home. I would have probably done the same thing and I know my wife would have been ready to go.
I agree that some hotels get bad reviews or bad ';raps'; b/c of inconsequential things such as having to wait until 3pm to check-in or waiting 1.5 minutes for an elevator instead of 1 minute and I try to weigh those little things against bigger problems such as safety, cleanliness and condition.
Thanks for posting your trip report even though it wasn%26#39;t a pleasant experience, hopefully others can learn from it if they are planning to stay at the Sea Mist in the near future.
It looks terrible form the outside so I know the inside can%26#39;t be to much better.
Thanx All for listening to my venting - and for
the sympathy - we just got back from wildwood crest
after a beautiful sunny 4 days @ beach.
I am obsessed with trip advisor reviews and forums
and I repeatedly checked SeaMist and the most recent ones had seemed decent, at least no mention of a bad area or robberies. I would never stay in that area again I had no idea.. We did try to book Dunes but there was no vacancy since we waited to long but I guess north myrle is nicer than south myrtle???
Anyhow, live %26amp; learn, we will go back again when the kids are a little bigger and I can%26#39;t wait!!
JerseyGirl, thank you - and you%26#39;re right - once
the kids hit the boardwalk and W.W. crest beach we had a ball it was our first time believe it or not and we loved it!! Have a great, safe trip in Myrtle!!!! Let us know details when you get back.
Take Care!!
fergy
