Hello,
Me again! We will be spending most of our time in Kiawah but plan to venture into Charleston for the day. What activities are not to be missed. We will only have one day so I want to be sure to have it well planned out so we dont miss anything important. I am traveling w/my husband, 8 MO son, mom and aunt. The only thing I have planned is to take a carriage ride. Other than that, I am unsure as to what to do. Any suggestions?
Charleston for the day..what is not to be missed!!
The good news is that you can really get the feeling of Charleston outdoors and on foot. Be sure your walk includes a visit to the market. Stop to watch the basket ladies sewing their sweetgrass baskets. Visit Waterfront Park, with the famous Pineapple Fountain, and walk along the seawall of The Battery for views of Fort Sumter.
After your visit to Charleston, before you return to Kiawah, drive to Mt Pleasant over the beautiful new Ravenel Bridge, which is an engineer marvel and a work of art. If you are ready for dinner once you get to Mt Pleasant, go to one of the several casual places there - perhaps on Shem Creek.
If you had more than one day, I would suggest a harbor cruise, or the boat trip to Fort Sumter National Monument. The South Carolina Aquarium is very interesting ... even for babies, who love watching the fish, sharks, and turtles swim in the tanks. You would also enjoy strolling around one of the nearby plantations.
