honest opinion...

my husband wants to go to hilton head next year. My concern is my 2 teenage sons. I really don%26#39;t think they will enjoy themselves. What is there to do for them. One of the boys is not too keen on the beach. I would rather go on a cruise! Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

honest opinion...

When next year? If it%26#39;s during Easter break they will have a blast!

Time of year is important. Also, what sort of vacation activities would your boys enjoy?

Perhaps more important, what kind of vacation activities do YOU want? (Since you mention a cruise, I take it you are not keen on renting a condo with a kitchen so you can cook for the family. LOL!)

De: The above posters have asked all very valid questions. You need to post with a list of your:

Timeframe. A week? Couple days? Two weeks?

Your tentative dates.

To cook or not to cook.

Hotel? Private house? Condo? Oceanfront? Doesn%26#39;t matter.

Activities? Nonactive? Golfers? Tennis?

Budget. Budget. Budget.

Ages of your sons. Their interests. Are you family oriented? Or do your own thing?

If you answer these questions we will be able to give you a tailor-made answer. Guaranteed!

Most people who will respond to your posts are fellow tripadvisors (me and my family included) that LOVE Hilton Head.

Hope this helps,

D in Muskoka.

thanks for all the responses. To answer your questions-we usually go in July for 8 days. None of us golf or play tennis. A friend of ours has a timeshare he is willing to give us. This year we used his timeshare exchange and stayed on disney property.

My concern is we have been to the caribbean and love the ocean there, but I don%26#39;t want to be disappointed in the ocean at Hilton Head.

As far as cooking goes-I will only cook breakfast and will go out to dinner. (After all I am on vacation too lol)

I don%26#39;t know what to do ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Thanks again for any info.

Oh I forgot to mention that the boys will be at the time of vacation 17 and 13.

I would vote for the cruise. After all, no one golfs and one son doesn%26#39;t care for the beach. That%26#39;s what Hilton Head is beach and golf. I, unlike most of the people that will post here, am not a big fan of Hilton Head Island.

Actually, I%26#39;m going to send you an private message. If you are using a timeshare (we are avid timesharers), I can give you great family timeshare destnations that your entire family will have fun at!!

thanks born to travel for your honesty.

de: Actually, I think I have to agree with borntotravel. Unlike btt, I LOVE Hilton Head and so do my family (including 15 yr old son). I don%26#39;t think Hilton Head is the place for you considering everything you%26#39;ve told us about your interests and hesitation about HHI. Really, nobody has money to waste on a vacation that isn%26#39;t really up your alley. A vacation is meant to be a refreshment and fun, but if you spend the whole time regretting your decision, that%26#39;s not good. I think I would be listening to bbt%26#39;s advice and private message. We too are timshare owners and that%26#39;s the fun of owning, going to places that you will look forward to, and remember fondly.

Hope this helps,

Teenage boys? What%26#39;s on their minds that they might enjoy on Hilton Head?

Video games

Food

Miniature Golf

Girl watching (even if they don%26#39;t admit it)

Bike Riding by themselves on 40+ miles of bike paths

Food

Skateboarding at The Crossings skateboard park

Alligator watching

Skimboarding

Food

Jet skiis

Swimming Pools (aka girl watching)

Dolphin tours

Fishing

Kayaking

Parasailing

And did I mention food?

:-D

Hilton Head is a place where a 17 year old and even a 13 year old is relatively safe to let go off on their own. Give them a bike and some money for food and fun. My son will be 17 next summer too and loves heading out on his own away from the parents and meeting up with friends.

Another idea is to let each son bring a friend. Then you%26#39;ll get the whole week off while they hang out together.

Don%26#39;t bet against both of them becoming avid beach lovers by the end of a week at Hilton Head.

A free week on Hilton Head is hard to turn down.

Good luck!

hey goto that does sound fun for the boys-thanks for your reply. It is hard to turn down the timeshare especially since it is for free!!

As far as bringing friends-I really don%26#39;t like to take that responsibility.

Well, we have time to think about it, but you make it sound great.

How is the beach there?
