lockers for baggage?

Hello.

Because of a strange planning, I%26#39;ll stay only a few hours in Charleston (arriving by train in the morning and departing late in the afternoon by plain.)

I%26#39;ll carry a medium-size suitcase (bigger that a carry-on suitcase). I want to leave it in a locker and do a quick visit to Charleston. I have checked Amtrak website for information about Charleston station services and I have also googled %26#39;charleston lockers%26#39;, but I haven%26#39;t found relevant entries.

Do you know if there are lockers or any baggage storage service at Amtrak station, in the city center (better) or at the airport?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to Charleston. My suggestion is - since the train station and the airport are not very close to each other - is to take the luggage to a hotel and leave it with the valet. (then you will not waste time as you won%26#39;t have much time to spare) They will give you a claim check and you can pick it up on your way to the airport.

You have probably read that you will need to take a cab to the city from Amtrak and a shuttle or cab to the airport. My suggestion is that whatever hotel you contact about the luggage, check and see if they have a shuttle to the airport. I%26#39;ll start looking for you and let you know what I find.

That was fast...I found a shuttle link that goes from Amtrak to the city and from the city to the airport.

Of the hotels listed I%26#39;d go to Charleston Place. If you make the arrangements online ahead of time just verify with Charleston Place that you are able to leave your luggage at the desk. (I%26#39;ve done this in other cities in similar situations - they%26#39;re happy to store it for a small fee or sometimes just for a tip)

Thank you, CultureHound

I didn%26#39;t think of a hotel. Thanks for the tip.

Actually, I was thinking of a mall or something similar, with lockers to leave bags while shopping.

However, a hotel is better. I%26#39;m unsure about the tip, in case they don%26#39;t have a fixed fee. I%26#39;m not familiar with US tip culture (I%26#39;m reading some very interesting articles for foreign visitors at tripadvisor.com/Travel-g54171-s1/鈥?0Visitors

I%26#39;m looking at the TA hotels list and I see there are several Holiday Inn. I don%26#39;t have any special status at all, but I%26#39;m a long-time member of their points program. Maybe it%26#39;s an easier introduction.

And as for the shuttle from Amtrak station, Rough Guide says that CARTA buses serve the station. If it%26#39;s true, this is good for me. (I think I%26#39;ll be a bit cheeky if I use a hotel shuttle under these circumstances)

Thanks!

The tip might be a dollar or two per bag - no big deal. As far as Carta, I will double-check but it would not be your most user-friendly option. Charleston is a small city and, as such, doesn%26#39;t have a well-developed transit system (we don%26#39;t have the kind of traffic in most areas that warrants a big city transport system).
