Luigi's Won't Honor Restaurant.com

I%26#39;ve recommended Luigi%26#39;s several times on this forum so I feel I must report on our latest visit.

We purchased the restaurant.com a couple of months ago %26amp; it is supposed to be good for one year.

Luigi%26#39;s refused to honor the certificate and said that their contract with restaurant.com ended in June.

Frankly, I%26#39;m not interested in their contract with a 3rd party. As far as I%26#39;m concerned, Luigi%26#39;s made a commitment and allowed their name to be used on restaurant.com. If they won%26#39;t honor their obligations to customers, it is a sad business practice. If the contract ran out in June %26amp; they didn%26#39;t renew, fine %26amp; dandy by me but those certificates that were sold up until that day should be valid.

When I asked to speak with the manager, I was informed that the owner is the manager %26amp; was busy cooking so couldn%26#39;t make time to speak with me.

There are far too many restaurants in Myrtle Beach that will stand behind their good name and reputation. Obviously, Luigi%26#39;s isn%26#39;t one of them.

Luigi's Won't Honor Restaurant.com

Being a restaurant owner I can say that oftentimes a contract runs out or isn%26#39;t even renewed but the company continues to run the ad. This happened to me by a local discount coupon company. They put an ad in their book from our restaurant and assumed we would purchase through them. We didn%26#39;t and we too had to tell customers that the ad had run out.

There is often more to the story then what you know.

Why do so many people think they always have to get a deal?

I go to Luigi%26#39;s because it is excellent food for a fair price.

I%26#39;m sorry that I don%26#39;t agree with you and apologize if I sound harsh. But being in the restaurant business has allowed me to see things with a different perspective.

I will continue to go to Luigi%26#39;s as their food has never disappointed me. It%26#39;s a favorite destination for me and my friends and family.

Luigi's Won't Honor Restaurant.com

I agree with Sopranofrano, because the contract made originally was that the certificate was good for one year from time of purchase.

Luigi%26#39;s was aware of this fact when they entered the agreement with restaurant.com.

Besides on the 2nd day into the contract you bought a certificate and saved it till the last day (1 year later), Luigi%26#39;s wouldn%26#39;t honor the certificate b/c their contract with restaurant.com expired.

In effect every certificate purchased for Luigi%26#39;s may then be worthless.

I certainly respect your opinion but I%26#39;m not always looking ';for a deal'; as you say.

Our party of 6 dined in at least 8 restaurants in MB last week %26amp; only had a restaurant.com certificate for 1 of them. My family contributes plenty to the MB economy.

The negative post to you sounds like someone thats a good friend of the owner and will say or do anything to bring their credibility back. I am in Myrtle right now and since i saw what they did to you by not honoring the certificate I have scratched them off my places to eat while here. Thanks for sharing this info with us.

Sopranofreak I am confused though because just recently you said you used a certificate at Luigi%26#39;s without any problem.

';We bought the same deal for Luigi%26#39;s %26amp; had no problem using it. Just gave it to the server like any coupon.';

But you%26#39;re not looking for a deal? Why only Luigi%26#39;s when using a coupon, twice in 2 weeks?

As for the Liquid Edge. I don%26#39;t know anyone personally at Luigi%26#39;s. And as you said in one of your posts about a hotel that had some negative reviews: ';Anyways, the reason I make this post is to let you know that the reviewers who gave this hotel a neg are either spoiled brats, or people who expect to have their bottom powdered every 5 minutes.';

Certainly you would not boycott a great place because one person wasn%26#39;t happy. I got the impression from your post that you are willing to make your own decisions. Plenty of reviewers LOVE Luigi%26#39;s. I%26#39;m sorry you are going to miss out on a wonderful restaurant with excellent food.

If anyone is that unhappy with Luigi then take the time to speak to him when he isn%26#39;t in the kitchen busting his butt and making a living.

You are right, there are plenty of other places to eat in Myrtle Beach. Enjoy.

Last September (2007) is when I used a certificate at Luigi%26#39;s with no problem. My most recent visit was last week %26amp; that%26#39;s when the problem was.

As I stated, I don%26#39;t only visit places with a certificate. I%26#39;ve also bought some items from their market next door (without a certificate).

Not quite sure why it seems so offensive (aka cheap) to use coupons or certificates. I worked for a successful %26amp; respected restaurant owner for eight years so I am familiar with promotions and comps.

I think I%26#39;m using this forum correctly to post information that others might be interested in. Since you are reading through some of my other posts you will see that I keep most of my recommendations or comments on the positive side.

Yes you (and I ) do try our best to write about the positive side of MB. Guess we will agree to disagree at times!

Did you contact Restaurant.com for a refund ? Fortunately I don%26#39;t think this is a common occurrence.

From what I understand, they will refund the money. That%26#39;s on my ';after vacation to-do-list';.

I agree that Luigi%26#39;s should honor their certificate. The fact is that you have to purchase the restaurant.com gift certificates and that they are supposed to be good for one year from the time of purchase.

I will be the first to admit that I am always looking for a good deal and I don%26#39;t see anything wrong with it.

If that happened to me then I would never return to the restaurant. That is bad business practice.
