I recently planned a short trip to Charleston using trip advisor and wanted to share our experiences.
We drove from the Myrtle Beach Airport in apx 2 hours. We stopped at the vistor center and purchased a combo pass ($31.00)for a tour of the harbor with Charleston Harbor Tours and a Carriage tour with Olde Towne Carriage Company.
We checked in to our room at the Elliot Street Inn, (see review) parked the car(lot near intersection of King and Queen for $16.00 for 24 hours) and set off on foot. We walked to the Vendue Inn and had a nice lunch at the rooftop patio restaurant. Good food and good view. From there we got on the boat and enjoyed a scenic tour of the harbor.
We walked around the market area and did some shopping. We returned to our room and enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese outside in the courtyard at the hotel and caught up on some email with the free internet.
We walked down Queen St. to King and they enjoyed window shopping on King St. We had dinner at Charleston Beer Works at 468 King St. This was about a mile walk from our hotel. We had read that it was the place to go to grab a bite and watch the Red Sox game. The food was average, bar food and the Red Sox won.
Charleston is a great city to explore on foot. I was actually surprized at how easy it was to get around town. I thought it looked more spread out on a map than it truly was. I had originally planned to stay at the Embassy Suites and then decided it was too far from the historic district. Now I know that it is not that far and would stay in that area next time.
In the morning we had a light breakfast at the hotel and then walked down to the market area for our carriage tour. We had a great guide who was very interesting and we saw a lot of the historic homes on lower King St. and along the battery. We really enjoyed the carriage tour.
It was quite warm while we were in town but we didn%26#39;t mind the heat. We were there right after Hanna and before Ike made landfall.
We loved Charleston and enjoyed our brief visit. The College of Charleston looked like a great place to go to school.
Everywhere we went people were very friendly and I thought it was easy to get around.
Thanks to everyone who answered my many questions as I planned this trip. I hope to visit again soon.
30 hour visit, Trip Report
So glad you had a great time, and thank you so much for your trip report!
We don%26#39;t mind the heat or humidity either - it keeps our skin so young-looking! :)
