Welcome to Charleston! You have lots of choices. You may know that you%26#39;re coming during the Preservation Society%26#39;s tours of homes and gardens. www.preservationsociety.org

I%26#39;d recommend that if you like touring historic homes decorated with antiques.

All the carriage companies give good tours, but it%26#39;s really more about the individual driver.

I%26#39;d suggest you take a walking tour of Charleston - there is a great one that leaves from the Mills House that we like.

THen there%26#39;s the Harbor Cruise; you can go to Ft. Sumter or just cruise the harbor.

The plantations are a bus tour away unless you have a car. One of the best free things to do is just to walk around the residential area south of Broad Street. The weather forecast sounds fantastic but the evenings will be chilly (50%26#39;s) so bring a light jacket.

I agree with the above post but I think it is really nice to take a city tour that stops at Market Street to get a feel for the city then go out to one of the Plantations for a tour. Middleton has a great place for lunch but Magnolia is nice also. Once you do this then you can explore on your own.

Thanks for the suggestions, is there any specific companies for tours? Jasmine House, is it in a good location for walking around? Does anyone know if I will have difficulty renting a car for a day when we get there? Also since were waliking, good resturants in the area? We are so looking forward to our visit, a friend said it was one of the favorite places they have been.

The SpiritLine Dinner Cruise is very good. They offer a complete dinner with your choice of entrees. Their She-Crab Soup is very good!

My favorite plantation is Middleton Place.

I have never heard of anyone having problems renting a car but the only time you would probably need one is to go to the plantations. I heard there is a company picking up people from the Visitors Center and taking them out to the plantations for a flat fee with no other tour service provided. You might want to check with the Visitors Center when you arrive and confirm this and check the cost. I was told it was very reasonable but I do not know the details.

Thanks for the info, we are so looking forward to coming!!!

Note that we will be experiencing a ';cold'; (for here) snap during the time you%26#39;ll be here - nighttime temps will be in the (gasp!) 50%26#39;s! Bring a sweater or light jacket. Daytime temps in 70%26#39;s to low 80%26#39;s and dry.

Thanks. I think our high today was 50 maybe, I just hate the thought of winter around the corner here.
