We are planning a family trip to celebrate my parents%26#39; 50th anniversary in May 2009. Because we are a large group needing 6 bedrooms, we are looking at either a big house or a couple of villas. My mom has her heart set on being on the ocean which has limited our choices somewhat. By ';on the ocean'; I mean she wants to be able to walk back and forth in a few minutes when she ';forgets things';. Currently we are looking at the Duneside villas. Any thoughts on this area from anyone? Are there other areas we should be exploring?
Questions about Duneside
The Dunesdide villas are are, as the name implies, nestled in the dunes. They are muli-tstory townhouse units arranged so that most have dramatic dune and ocean views, at least from the upper floors.
My only concern about Duneside for older people and for children would be the many stair steps ... both to enter the elevated villas, and to move between floors. Some Duneside villas have been remodeled to include interior elevators, but you will still have to navigate the exterior steps.
The Duneside location is (IMO) great for families. Immediately to the east of Duneside, you have the life-guarded area of Beachwalker County Park (with snack bar, beach chair rentals, toilet and shower facilities). As you walk east through the park%26#39;s beach area, you go onto Captain Sam%26#39;s Spit, a beautiful and completely undeveloped area of beach which terminates where the Kiawah River separates Kiawah Island from Seabrook Island.
In addition to Duneside, you should consider the three-bedroom, ocean-front Mariner%26#39;s Watch villas, which are duplexes (one downstairs behind the dunes, and one upstairs with ocean views). The Mariner%26#39;s Watch places are in East Beach, close to The Sanctuary Hotel.
