Hello,
My husband and I are traveling w/our 8 month old son, and my mom and aunt are traveling w/us as well. We will be staying in Kiawah but want to venture into Charleston a couple of times. I have a few ??%26#39;s
-What are some affordable restaurants in the area that you would recommend??
-What is the best way to tour Charleston...we won%26#39;t be able to stay all day due baby naps but want to make the most out of spending a couple of hours. Is it easy to navigate around the area on foot.
-Anything not to be missed?
I want to make sure we see the major highlights that Charleston has to offer!

Charleston%26#39;s historic district is walkable. With your group, I also recommend a carriage tour, of which there are many, so that you can get an overview of the area. In autumn, the carriage tours are particularly pleasant.
Joseph%26#39;s restaurant, on Meeting Street near the corner of Queen Street, is an extremely affordable, casual, and local place for lunch. The fried green tomatoes, oyster po%26#39;boy, and creole shrimp sandwich are favorites of ours. The sweet tea (ice tea made with sugar syrup) is an excellent ';pick me up';, as well as a Charleston tradition. Sometimes the place gets crowded with people coming out to lunch from their offices, but the wait is never too bad. People of all ages - including babies - are always welcome at Joseph%26#39;s.

Here is some info on companies offering carriage tours -

Plan to stop at the Charleston Visitors Bureau to pick up maps, coupons (!!!), and information. You will probably score a discount on a carriage tour.

The Visitors Bureau is located in a remodeled, historic train station, and has a large parking lot out front. (Do not confuse the Visitors Bureau with the place next door, across a small street, which is a commercial entity trying to lure in visitors with its similar location and similar name.)
I would also recommend ';Fast and French'; on Broad Street. Nice selection, very French, and in a good location for sightseeing in the residential area. Juanita Greenberg%26#39;s on King Street is also very affordable and delicious - but be sure to go to the back patio as the front is rather ordinary.
For an affordable dinner with a baby you might consider Southend Brewery on East Bay. Have the she-crab soup!
Enjoy!
You might take a stroller and time the naps for ';strolling'; around Charleston, which is a great thing for any visitor to do! That way, baby gets the nap while mom gets to see all the beautiful sites in Charleston.
Thanks for all the wonderful info. I have started my research project today!! Is there a certain carriage ride that you would recommend over another? Should I make reservations in advance? I plan on bringing the stroller and hope that our little monkey will take naps so we can spend the day in Charleston!!
