Questions about Marriott Surf Watch

Hello!

I have stayed at Barony twice, Waiohai in Kauai, Grande Vista in Orlando so I am very familiar with the Marriott Vacation Club resorts. That being said, I have some questions about Surf Watch as I am thinking about taking the family there next summer.

1) What buildings are the best to stay in? We have 3 kids (who will be 7, 5, and 2 when we go next year) and will want a two-bedroom. We like access to the kids pools but also don%26#39;t want to be too far away from the beach. My wife also likes to do a TON of activities with them through the kids club and we don%26#39;t want to be far away from the Marketplace. Keep in mind, we would LOVE to have a good view too!

2) Other than the view, is it that beneficial to stay at the building closest to the water? Is there a pool at that building? Any activities for the kids? It seems like you still have a long walk/ride on the boardwalk so it truly isn%26#39;t ';ocean front.';

3) For those who have stayed at Barony, how would you compare the two? Which do you prefer?

Thanks!

Pat

Questions about Marriott Surf Watch

Hi Pat...

I haven%26#39;t stayed at Surfwatch but I have walked around on the grounds. We have stayed at the Barony twice and wanted to check out Surfwatch just to see what it was like on our last visit to the island this past April.

I found the grounds to be quite nice. Your typical Marriott type property. Really only a couple units have a view of the ocean...and really they are still set back quite a way. This property has worked hard to be very protective of the environment. They have built back from the ocean. Most of the buildings look out at the various pools and ponds. They are beautiful but don%26#39;t expect an oceanview.

There are several pools on the property. One is right out on the ocean...really impressive. The indoor pool and gym area are both quite nice as well. There is a really long boardwalk out to the ocean. It would be quite a hike with the kids in my opinion. Everything is quite new at the resort as this property is only a couple of years old.

We did like the Surfwatch property alot...enough to put it as our second choice when we did an exchange through Interval for April 2009. Our first choice was still the Barony. We have also stayed at the Grande Ocean on the island. We were lucky enough to get back into the Barony for next spring. There is just something about driving into that plantation!

I wish I could help you more with some of your specific questions...

Questions about Marriott Surf Watch

I stayed at The Barony and went down to the Surf Watch.

I have been there before, never stayed at The Surf Watch, but don%26#39;t like it. It is too spread out for me.

It is a long haul to the beach, there is a pool at the beach and Villas closer to the beach than at the main building.

So, I think that it is best for you to call the Resort and ask them.

We do not have any kids either.
